Sea of Charms is the third book in the Spellshop series, exploring the fantasy world of Alyssium and beyond. Marin is a supply runner, captain of her own ship, her story was interesting and filled with adventure.
I loved Marin and her ragtag crew – Perri the sea serpent, Ree the sea obsessed talking Wax Myrtle, musician Dax and a few other additions. The callbacks to the previous two novels were fun, getting more depth into Terlu’s predicament and the magical shift of power in Alyssium’s uprising. I was impressed with the world building and expansion of the magical system and creatures.
I think Ree and his songs were my favorite parts as well as the found family theme. The romance between Marin and Dax was sweet and wholesome. She was hurt and betrayed by an ex, and it was nice to see her get a happily ever after!
Overall, this was just the right amount of cozy to interesting plot and I had a great time listening to the book. 🎶The blue blue sea, she calls to me 🎶
Caitlin Davies’ narration is so wonderful and fits the atmosphere of the story very well. I enjoy her voice variation and character delivery (Ree’s singing 😂), it’s very pleasant to the ear and keeps my attention!
