This book was refreshing, in a sea of fantasy heavy stories, it’s a nice change to jump into something more urban and witchy. This was a darker book with death, real stakes and consequences.
I liked Katherine as the main character. Her history and drive to help other young witches was compelling. The mystery and tragic events that follow kept me guessing. There may have been a few too many POVs, but it introduced the world building and hierarchy within the covens. Where some witches are born into well-connected families and unsettled witches coming into power suddenly and with grave implications.
The pacing was a little off at times, however the last quarter really picked up and felt tense. I also wasn’t exactly sold on the romance, but this has interesting potential as a series, I’m curious where it will go next.
Narration by Nora Sofyan was clear and interesting, I liked her voice and emotion delivery, it fit the atmosphere very well.
