Maybe a little mixed feelings review… I admit, I had different expectations going into the book, but it was still good and I enjoyed it for the most part.

The things I liked were obviously the cats! The atmosphere was also very eerie with that Only Murders in the Building kind of vibe. Definitely a bit gory and gross, but in my opinion could have leaned into it a little more? I thought the audiobook narration by Stephanie Németh-Parker was very well done. I really liked her voice delivery for the shady characters, the cats, and the demon. The short podcast/newscast type chapters were ear pleasing and changed up the pacing, it was like comedic relief, but again – cats!

So for the mixed feelings – the pacing was quite slow getting over the middle. I liked the start a lot, getting to know Penny and Popcorn, then Godfrey. But the day to day life between Penny and Dean could have been shortened. I really wished it would lean into the occult a lot more, something more spooky and more mysterious. Seemed like everything really scary happened off page? It was kind of underwhelming. But hey, cats! Could have had even more silly and weird shenanigans, but alas.
