Strange Lights was not at all strange but something so wonderful, wholesome, magical, and out of this world at the same time.
The synopsis was enough to get me to pick up this book, the depth and emotional themes are what make it stand out. I was fully seated for all the cryptid lore and quirky shenanigans. What should have been a light airy book, really built up the emotional journey. It surprised me with the philosophical questions, I love a little bit of existentialism and this asked so many questions related to family, children, Earth and the universe.
I love Eldi and her origin, a sassy Chupacabra toddler, always a little hungry for goats 😅 Reggie was a great mother to her and others. The constant second guessing, is she enough, rings throughout the book. There’s a wonderful found family conclusion and I think it hit all the marks. I believe this will be a series, possibly following other characters we were introduced to, and I. Am. So. Down.

Thank you to RB Media for my free audiobook. Narrated majorly by Vico Ortiz and filling in a few Calvin chapters by Nick Walther. I am obsessed with Vico’s voice, they brought Reggie to life, I loved how they depicted the young voice of Eldi and every character had a distinct personality, it was a great listen!
