I really enjoyed the beginning of this book, after the halfway point and in the last quarter, this really took a turn and might actually be my favorite book of the month 😄
The world building and duality of the story really stand out. The characters!!! All the wildfolk were my favorite, so endearing. Those little troublesome rascals! I really liked Abitha and her story arc, with religious undertones as well as the witch hunt, then a bit of female rage. I think the author did a good job merging creepy folklore with New England history. Very creative and yes, did get more horror-like towards the end!
Recommending this to fans of T. Kingfisher as I found most of the story kind of cozy – cozy horror, is that a thing???
“I am the Father of the wildfolk, the guardian of Mother Earth. I am the shepherd and I am the slayer. I am life and I am death.”
“I am the witch, and the witch cares not for your tears.”
