The Body is an atmospheric supernatural horror with cult and female rage themes. It felt tense and strange, a little weird, but also a tad confusing. Maybe because I was listening to the audiobook, it was harder to keep track of the plot.
Part domestic drama, Mavis is struggling in her feelings towards her husband, being a good wife, and keeping true to her faith. There are a few tense events in the book that really had me on edge. I think the author did a great job building dread and the oddness of everything happening. The ending brought in a twist I didn’t see coming, overall I liked the story and would compare it to Jordan Peele’s Us.
I enjoyed the narration by Nesta Cooper, I’m a fan of her acting, she did a wonderful job bringing Mavis to life and showcasing the plenty feelings evoked in the story.
