The Swan’s Daughter is a magical delight! I knew almost immediately that this book would have an impact on me. Roshani’s beautiful writing just jumps off the page, she created such an effortless world, full of wonder and whimsy, I couldn’t ask for more. A true testament of a favorite book is preordering the final copy as soon as I started 🥰
To say I was enchanted would be an understatement. The story begins with Araminta, a rare Veritas Swan and her sorcerer husband, Prava. A bittersweet union, overshadowed by Prava’s search for immortality. Jumping a bit ahead, Demelza is their youngest daughter, a bit of an ugly duckling, she was born without her wings, unable to transform, always hidden away. Forced to run away for her own safety, she joins a contest to win Prince Arris’ heart in exchange for her freedom. Striking a deal, Demelza and Arris work together to suss out anyone trying to hurt him.
The humor in this book is so silly and ridiculous at times, only a fairytale could conjure up the magic and its characters. I loved all the little gags and a menagerie of personalities. It’s was so engaging and charming, it left me feeling so happy and joyful. There’s mystery, shenanigans and LOVE! Truly beautiful storytelling, from the whimsical descriptions of the forests and castle, I had too much fun listening to the audiobook, I needed to finish immediately.
Narrated by Ell Potter in a wonderful cadence, her delivery and timing really enhanced the story and brought the characters to life. An immersive listen, I honestly couldn’t put down!
