Witches, ghosts and monsters, oh my! This was a fun book – I loved the atmosphere, magical elements and the characters – perfect for the Halloween season.

Mallory and Anaïs are sisters, witches, and kind of conwomen. The opening chapter with Mallory giving a haunted house tour was very visual and grabbed my attention right away. The author did a great job with the world building and setting, based on French myth and folklore, a touch of whimsy and drama. Dark fantasy with a murder mystery, but still super accessible (aka not really scary). Mallory was fun and very likable, pretty clever and I loved the sisterly relationship. I really enjoyed the mysterious curse and vengeful ghost, as well as some of the fun helpful ghosts (Triphine!!), and side characters -it kept me entertained. While there is a hint of romance, it’s fully YA and I really appreciated the bigger story.

I had a really great time listening to the audiobook performed by Rebecca Soler. She has a fantastic voice for this type of novel, her inflection and voice delivery made this story very engaging, the characters sounded realistic and personable. I’m a fan!
