I really liked this book, it had me hooked from the start, it was dark, emotional and bloody. The 70s setting was very strong throughout, middle America, it gave me a bit of a true crime serial killer type vibe, and the killer happens to be a vampire.
This is a complex story full of dark and real struggles – Minor being affected by his time in the Vietnam War, and Julia’s upturned life after living in a domestic abuse household. A story with big mistakes, unkind lessons and revenge, hoo boy, the revenge!
I really connected to Julia’s character, I loved her story arc and the drive to avenge her loved ones. The tension was great, John Varley’s character was like the Terminator, indestructible and very deadly, a scary boogeyman not many lived to tell about. It was a really good book, albeit dark and gory, I liked the conclusion and I’m glad to have read it!
