A resident at the Autumn Springs Retirement Home is found dead in her room, nothing surprisingly out of the ordinary since its residents are in their 70s and 80s. But when more residents end up dead, something doesn’t sit right with Rose and her friends. Why would someone be killing their elderly neighbors?

I had a lot of fun listening to this book, which to say may be disturbing because it gets a bit slashery in the best way. Narration by January LaVoy is phenomenal. Her voice work has so much range, emotion, and personality. I loved all her different deliveries for the characters, truly an immersive listen!

I was fully invested with the story, maybe since I just rewatched the Scream movies, it uses a similar formula. It’s the meta, megalomaniac, campy type of horror slasher that I love, with likable characters and a good mystery.

Rose was so intriguing with her own secrets and history that’s slowly revealed throughout the book. She’s the Sidney Prescott, the final girl, I just loved her strength and dedication to finding the killer. It wasn’t a lighthearted book, a lot of people die (it’s a slasher yall) and some deaths are gruesome, just read with care! I did find parts of the book humorous (Scream formula) between character and killer chapters- and super binge worthy. I’m between 4-5 stars 🌟

Definitely recommending this book for the Halloween season!
