“Tonący brzytwy się chwyta.”
To Clutch a Razor continues to build an interesting modern take on Slavic folklore. It brings me back to my childhood where Baba Jaga was one of the scariest things you can be threatened with for misbehaving! I loved the author’s exploration of Polish culture – both in Chicago and that we get to travel with the characters to Poland. There is family drama and unique character building in this book. The atmosphere and pacing is great, slightly dark and gritty. Addition of new characters really enhanced the story and messy family dynamic. I really enjoy the world building and all the characters.
Multiple narrator audiobook performances made the book very fun. Polish is a difficult language to speak, especially for Americans, and I appreciated their hard work. The author threw in a lot more Polish phrases and names into the mix, which was pretty fun for me. Not all pronunciations were quite there… but again, not an easy language…to moje dwa grosze iykyk
