“Once upon a time there were three witches.”

Well I’m glad to have finally gotten to read this book, I really enjoyed it! Overall, I think it had a great message of women’s empowerment, set against a historical witchy Salem backdrop.

I loved the three sisters (and their names), how different they were and the way they came together to recover their lost magic. The use of children’s rhymes and fairytale stories were a great plot device, it gave the book a magical realism quality that I found very interesting and clever.

The pacing was on the slower side but it didn’t bother me too much, the full picture of the story coming together was worth it. I’m comparing this book to the Discovery of Witches novels by Deborah Harkness, maybe with less fantasy, but definitely similar vibe! I’m feeling great about my official first witchy read of the season✨
