Former Air Force Special Investigator Annie Gore is hired by 18 year old boy Max to investigate the kidnapping of his sister ten years prior. Molly along with two other girls, Olivia and Jessica were taken separately, apple head dolls were left in their place. Only Olivia was returned, with the other two girls’ case going cold with no answers. Annie starts questioning Quartz Creek’s old witch’s tales, keeping its resident’s on edge.
This was an outstanding debut, I was immersed in the book right away and loved unfolding the mystery.
Annie is a fantastic character, she’s layered and strong, very likable and a great investigator. The author created an intriguing story woven with witchy folklore set in an Appalachian atmosphere. It was gritty yet wholesome and simple. Showcasing this small town and how the many characters living there were connected by its lore.
The final chapters had me on the edge of my seat, I felt very connected to Annie and her strive to find the truth where other’s might have turned a blind eye.
I binged the audiobook narrated by Emily Pike Stewart in just two days, she had an awesome delivery for Annie and I was captivated by the whole atmosphere. Definitely recommend!
