This was such an atmospheric and mysterious listen. I really liked the setting – a small remote island slowly ravaged by effects of climate change. The characters were complex and I enjoyed all the various POVs. Rowan’s decision not to have children and the Salt family’s duty to the seed bank are major themes in the novel. The almost apocalyptic take on climate change is starting to be too realistic, I liked the highlighted beauty of saving the animals we can.

The disappearance of Rowan’s husband, the cryptic messages, ghostly apparitions, and secrets kept by the island’s residents, created a really thought provoking puzzle. There was a steady slow build to the final chapters that had great tension and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Fantastic multi-narration throughout the whole production with Saskia’s moody delivery and Steve’s deep voice really rounded out the whole experience.
