I’m a big wimp and don’t really like scary things but this was just enough creepy, can’t look away kind of read. Short, catchy chapters, and a beautiful haunted villa in Italy, I had to know what happened next.
The family dynamics were definitely toxic, especially more so towards the end. I couldn’t help being on Anna’s side throughout the book, because she’s our narrator but also because her family was really kinda shitty. Let a girl live, sheesh.
I really liked the haunting and curse concept, all the little details, corner of your eye apparitions of the villa itself. It was so spooky but the descriptions of Italy, Florence and the nearby areas were to die for (maybe a little literally 😅). I really felt like I was there in person, sightseeing and looking at galleries or architecture. Anna was an artist and that played into the setting very well. I wished there was a little more closure for Anna and Waverly, it made me a little sad. I felt like they were united through this experience and also outcast by the family, I’m imagining they reconnected after the book ends 😄
