As a huge fan of paranormal / urban fantasy romance, I was very apprehensive about this book. I shouldnāt have but I did – I questioned Ali on Check & Mate, it was really great. And now I questioned her on Bride. I shouldnāt have. I really enjoyed this book!
I liked Misery from the start and the overall plot was very respectful to the genre, it was exactly what I would expect if I didnāt question it from the beginning š the world building was simple but great. Century old conflict between three species – Humans, Vampyres, and Wares. A fragile truce, using children as collateral to keep peace. I thought this political setup was easy enough to follow and created a good subplot other than the romance!
I loved Lowe and his character was on point as the MMC lead. I liked the broody majestic fluffball even if we didnāt get that much Ware action. His and Miseryās relationship was easygoing and understanding, despite the prejudices of their species. He was a big cinnamon roll to be honest š„°
As with other Ali Hazelwood novels, the side characters were super lovable and charming. Little Ana was to die for and I love that she called her Miresy and messed up big words all the time, and could lie about her age with her mouth but not fingers š¤£
Additionally, the antagonistic banter between Misery and Alex was hilarious!! I liked this hacker plot a lot, it was very believable in this world. And lastly, Miseryās sister relationship with Serena was fun and ridiculous, Iām curious if the ending means we might get another book in this series??
Either way, I was super entertained throughout this whole thing, maybe I wonāt question Aliās ideas in the future as much š
