I’m so glad I picked up this book, it was gripping and I loved all the metaphorical commentaries on women’s issues, mainly violence against women, or even more exactly – white women.
The first half had me questioning Louise and I thought the commentary was about postpartum depression. Then in the middle it shifted for me while focusing on the other serial killer’s victims, the obsession with true crime and violent deaths of women was very prominent and such a parallel to the real world. There are many stories just from the past year about the focus on murdered women depending on their skin color or ethnicity.
“𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻. 𝗔𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻.”
I mean!!! If you are a true crime junkie I hope you will like this book as much as I did.
While you may see the twists coming I loved the fulfillment and the outcome, it all kinda makes sense and comes together in the end.
I thought the slight futuristic sci-fi setting was very cool, maybe jarring at first because it reveals itself subtly??? I have to throw in my movie references so I’d say it had some vibes of Demolition Man and Orphan Black 🤓 plus ya know, true crime/serial killer.
