There were many different themes happening in this novel but ultimately to me it was a story about grief and moving on (TW: child’s death). The writing was great with just enough science/speculative/existential fiction and I found it to be quite dark and sad with a definite horror feel, especially in the third act. However, I listened to the audiobook where the narrator had a posh British accent so it made it seem more jovial, if that makes sense? Very good narration on audio 👍🏼

I’m comparing it to the movie Arrival and if you’re a fan of science fiction you will find that it takes advantage of various sci-fi ideology.
